Existence and exponential stability for a Euler-Bernoulli beam equation with memory and boundary output feedback control term

Jong Yeoul Park and Yong Han Kang,Jung Ae Kim | Acta Applicandae Mathematicae 104/3 (2008)

In this paper, we consider the Euler-Bernoulli beam equation with memory and boundary output feedback control term. We prove the existence of solutions using the Galerkin method and then investigate the exponential stability of solutions by using multiplier technique.

Greybody Factor and Hawking Radiation of Charged Dilatonic Black Holes

Won Tae Kim,John J. Oh | Journal of the Korean Physical Society 52 (2008)

The greybody factor and the Hawking temperature for a class of asymptotically flat charged dilatonic black holes are computed by using the low-energy dynamics of scalar fields in the black hole background. In the semi-classical approximation, the Hawking temperature has a good agreement with the one computed from the surface gravity, which is independent of the magnetic (or electric) charges of dilatonic black holes.

Determining the Minimal Length Scale of the Generalized Uncertainty Principle from the Entropy-Area Relationship

Won Tae Kim,John J. Oh | Journal of High Energy Physics 2008 (2008)

We derive the formula of the black hole entropy with a minimal length of the Planck size by counting quantum modes of scalar fields in the vicinity of the black hole horizon, taking into account the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP). This formula is applied to some intriguing examples of black holes - the Schwarzschild black hole, the Reissner-Nordstrom black hole, and the magnetically charged dilatonic black hole. As a result, it is shown that the GUP parameter can be determined by imposing the black hole entropy-area relationship, which has a Planck length scale and a universal form within the near-horizon expansion.

Coherent states of the inverted Caldirola-Kanai oscillator with time-dependent singularities

Jeong Ryeol Choi, Kyu Hwang Yeon | Annals of Physics 323/4 (2008)

The coherent states for a system of time-dependent singular potentials coupled to inverted CK (Caldirola–Kanai) oscillator are investigated by employing invariant operator method and Lie algebraic approach. We considered Coulomb potential and inverse quadratic potential as singularities of the system. The spectrum of quantum states is discrete for λ < 0 while continuous for λ ? 0. The probability densities for both Fock state and coherent state are converged to the center as time goes by according to the dissipation of energy. We confirmed that the probability density in the coherent state oscillates back and forth like a classical wave packet.

Commutation relations and self-consistency in electrodynamics for the fields in time-varying media

JEONG RYEOL CHOI , JUN-YOUNG OH | International Journal of Modern Physics B 22/3 (2008)

linear media with time-dependent parameters, various commutation relations for the field operators obtained from the Lewis–Riesenfeld invariant operator method are calculated. We investigated whether our development is self-consistent or not by evaluating the Heisenberg equation of motion for field operators using the associated commutation relation.

New criterion of the approximation property

Ju Myung Kim | Journal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications 345 (2008)

This paper is concerned with the approximation property which is an important property in Banach space theory. We show that a Banach space X has the approximation property if (and only if), for every Banach space Y, the set of finite rank operators from X to Y is dense in the corresponding space of compact operators, in the usual topology of uniform convergence on compact sets.
