수리과학연, 산업수학 - 응용대수기하분야 국제 학회 개최
(SIAM Conference on Applied Algebraic Geometry)
□ 국가수리과학연구소(NIMS)는 응용대수기하분야 산업수학 국제 학회(SIAM Conference on Applied Algebraic Geometry)를 오는 8월 3일(월) ~ 7일(금)까지 국가수리과학연구소 수학원리응용센터에서 개최한다고 밝혔다.
□ 이번 행사는 국내·외 300여명의 연구진들이 모여 대수기하학에 기반을 둔 생물학, 부호론, 암호론, 계산 기하학, 컴퓨터 그래픽스, 양자 정보 및 계산, 기계 학습, 최적화, 로보틱스, 복잡도 이론 등 다양한 분야의 주제를 다룰 예정이다.
□ 이 학회는 2011년 미국 North Carolina State University에서 처음 개최되었고, 2013년 미국 Colorado State University에서 개최되어 미국에서만 두 번 연속 개최되다가 이번에 처음으로 한국에서 개최된다. 각 분야 최고 수준의 연사들이 초청되었는데, 이중에 2인의 한국인 연사가 포함되어 있다. 한 분은 세계적인 수학자인 김민형 교수(英옥스포드대)이고, 다른 한 사람은 최근 떠오르는 스타로 알려진 허준이 박사(美프린스턴대)이다. 이 학회가 명성 있는 SIAM 국제 학회임을 감안할 때, 9명의 초청 연사 중에 두 명이나 한국인 연사가 추천된 것은 한국 수학의 수준을 높게 평가한 것으로 보인다.
□ 이 학회는 오는 8월 베이징에서 열리는 산업 및 응용수학 국제회의(ICIAM 2015, International Congress on Industrial and Applied Mathematics)의 위성학회로, 수리과학연구소 조도상 수학원리응용센터장은 “산업수학에 광범위하게 적용되는 응용대수기하학 분야의 전문 연구역량을 축적할 수 있는 매우 좋은 기회가 될 것으로 기대한다.”고 밝혔다.
